bolt on bottom underneath rail
We bought this treadmill not even 6 months ago and the whole metal frame is rusting and it is so bad that it is flaking. The flaking falls off onto the ground so that you have to vacume every couple of days. We have had someone around from Elite Fitness in Hastings to take photos of it. finally a week later he calls me up this morning to say that it is rusting because of sweat. Now this is the real sinch... he says because we eat fish that it is why the machine is rusting!!!!!!! I have never been so angry. Apparently it comes under cleaning instructions in the manual and it isn't under warranty for not cleaning it properly. BUT you see; the rust is even happening underneath the machine! ALL parts that arent plastic are rusting, even the bolts and screws!!!!! I will keep you posted!!!! KEEP SEARCHING, DONT BUY A PROFORM AND ESPECIALLY DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM ELITE FITNESS, HASTINGS, NZ!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE TRYING TO WRIGGLE OUT OF THIS ONE AND IT AINT HAPPENING. WE ARE ASKING THAT THEY REPLACE THE METAL FRAME!!! Its such a hassle for them that; and I quote..."if you eat fish dont buy a treadmill!!! IS THE BEST EXCUSE THEY CAN COME UP WITH!!!! Nice try!!!!

Not all of us can either afford to plop down 1500 bucks on a treadmill, and frankly I didn't want to, so I purchased the Proform XP 542e. This has run consistently since the day I bought it. It has incline control, a 2.75 HP motor, blah, blah... The point is--who are you a rep for to exclude an entire brand of treadmill on little or (actually) NO reasonable basis? Sorry, it is a very popular brand and has many loyal followers--me included.
Be a little bit more specific next time. You have the burden of proof in stating why ProForm should not be purhcased or why it is necessary to upsell yourself into a 1500 treadmill with the same guts as many lesser priced.
If you did your homework, id didn't show.

january of 2oo8 i purchased proform 8.5 personal fitness trainer treadmill from "icon". I've had repair service here 5 times -three consoles and one running board later my machine went down again. They tell me my console is bad by phone. these consoles cost $400 plus. this machine is a lemon but they refuse to correct this problem. DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!

The walking platform snapped in half after four years, although it wasnt over used. I have since had extreme difficulty getting replacement parts. I ordered in early Feburary and it is now April and they keep fobbing me off, although I've already paid for the part back in Feburary. I would not recommend this product. They're a messy company to deal with.

Junk...I bought a Proform about three years ago...first the assembly demonstrated that it was made of inferior materials. The console was always loose and after about two months the console electronics took a dump. They did send me a new console which worked for about six months (now out of warranty). The speed would not remain constant and the electronic raising and lowering of the deck quit working.
I would stay away from PROFORM. It is of inferior quality built and electronics!!! Buyers beware of anything from this company!!!

My proform 625 walking platform crack and i noticed two bolts holding down the platform were broken. So, that is a major expense repair.

I bought this treadmill thinking that this would be a decent purchase and would give us a fairly good treadmill. I couldn't have been more wrong, this was a piece of junk that has never worked properly. It has an electronic display and controls, once you select the speed and start it, it will start running then all of a sudden the display will reset to zero and it will stop. It never runs consistently, constatntly shutting off and you can never get a decent workout.
I would NEVER Recommend any Proform Treadmill to anyone, please save your money, buy something else.
The review above was right on the money, please pay attention.

I've had my proform for approximately 5 years without any problems whatsoever. The functionality is basic I'm sure (although it's not a manual treadmill) but I'm none the wiser since I've not tried out other treadmills with all the bells and whistles. I'm now looking to upgrade and am surprised to hear this treadmill is not ideal for advanced work-outs. I've never had to rely on the treadmill for daily or even weekly cardio since I've always been able to jog outdoors. However, due to a change in states, I've found the local terrain too harsh on me to continue outdoor running.
Point is, when I've needed it, this treadmill has served me well and reliably for the past 5 years.

I am very confused by the warranty information that I am reading. I have been looking at Proform and Nordictrack mid range. I want the ifit Live and these are the only 2 with the technology at this point. I am going between the Proform 1080 and 1450 or the Nordictrack 1750. All 3 of them are showing a Lifetime frame and motor warranty. 5 year parts and 2 years labor. I can not find any information on how these warranties work but according to your article...not very well. Both brands are made by ICON, which I have not as of yet heard anything positive about them? What's the real scoop on the warranties?

I bought a Proform 695LT from Home Shopping Network last year. I only use it up to speeds of 3mph for a health condition. The motor has just started clanking and whining on startup and gets worse as it speeds up. The motor is under 25 year warranty.....what a joke. Can't get customer service to even talk to a real person. They have this automated system that takes your phone number to call you back, except they never do. Customer service is the most important part of a company, in my opinion.
A Company that does not back up its products is worthless to me. Do not buy Proform if you want any service.

My mother purchased the ProForm XT580 treadmill. While walking slowly on the treadmill, it unexpectedly accelerated and threw her off.
I wonder if any other users have experienced this with their ProForm treadmills, or any other ICON Health & Fitness Treadmills (Nordic, Epic, etc.)
Thank you,
Janet

We had the treadmill for 4 months and the motor stopped working. Unfortunately, the warranty of parts and labor is only 90 days. I called the technician, he came over for service. He charged us $99.00 for diagnose the problem and the repair cost is $478.00. It’s a joke, I bought this treadmill for $349.00. Since the motor is still under the warranty , I called both SEARS and PROFORM customer services to send me the motor and my friend can replace it without a cost. UNFORTUNATELY, after 5 hours talked to both customer services, they denied to process the order and ask me to use their technician in order to have the free order. After 4 months, the treadmill is a junk, I had to pay $50.00 for someone came to pick up the trash.

My wife uses a proform 720 for winter walking (does not run). She weighs about 115 lbs. We have had nothing but problems. This machine should still work like new with less than 200 miles on it and less than two years old. The latest is the console. None of the buttons no longer work. A replacement console is $350 to $400. I wish I had done more research and bought a better treadmill. Icon has a plant just down the road and I thought if it broke I could at least get some serive. Wrong. I would have been better to buy one from China.

The first time I tried to call, the paperwork I got with the unit said they are open until 6:00pm MST. I called at 5:26 and I got a recording that the office was closed. The next day I called, I was on hold for over 30 minutes. The automated phone system said to press 5 for a callback. That didn't work. Meanwhile, I sent two e-mails to get a phone call. I got one e-mail response for me to describe my problem via e-mail. Finally, someone came on the phone. After a few diagnostic questions and several questions regarding where, when and how much I paid for the unit, he determined that I needed a service tech to look at it. Now, they wanted to charge me a 25.00 registration fee. Also, parts will take 7 to 10 days to arrive. Hopefully, they bring the right part. Otherwise, it will take another 2 weeks. The total time on the phone was 1 hour and 15 minutes. We'll see what happens next.

Still working after close to 10 years! I've just worn a large hole in the belt and thinking about ordering the part rather than buying a new machine. Used for 1 hour per day at 4.5 mph since around 1999. I'm surprised at some of the negative reviews - maybe they don't make 'em like they used to.

Have used this machine weekly, long workouts of 5-10k runs at 6.0-7.5mph average speed for the last 10 years. This morning during my run the back roller started squealing. I'll be looking at the belt alignment tonight and possibly replace the roller if needed, but overall, I have never done any maintenance on it or had to align the belt or anything. I guess we've been very lucky.

I couldn't agree more. I got a proform for my wife and I and right off the bat, the normal stance was on a pretty agressive incline. I'm used to treadmills on Navy ships out at sea so I don't mind the occasional slight incline, but this was ridiculous.
After raising the back legs, we used it for about 2 days before it started quiting on us. Maybe 1 1/2 miles is not considered entry level but it can't even pull that off without stopping and you have to wait for it to cool down before starting again.
Lastly, the readings are faulty from just plain inaccurate, to just freezing mid workout. Definitely a waist of money for us, hopefully not for you too.

Retraction for my "FRUSTRATED" Critique. For the record I was not a happy camper when I originally wrote. I must say that ICON,and Customer service has rectified my situation above and beyond the call of service. Very satisfied and would recommend them, and do.To have a big company act to a humble manner the way they do gives me hope that others will do the same.

I got the ProForm 625 a couple of years ago. Didn't start using it until after the warranty expired. Runs a couple of minutes and the motor thermal protection shuts it off. It's been collecting dust ever since. Recently tried againg to get it running ( I build machines and control systems for a living). The belts are borderline slipping and the deck is slick but the motor still draws too much current. I believe it is an underpowered poor design. It's probably a crap shoot if any of them work with out problems.

I owned a proform crosswalk treadmill for 15 years and never had a single problem with it. The only maitenance I ever had to do was get more lubricant for the track! Now finally after 15 years the track is shot, it slips from side to side and no matter how much adjusting you do with an allen wrench it can't be fixed. I say, WOW, what an exceptional treadmill! It was used mainly for walking and jogging, with the emphasis being on jogging. I can't say enough good things about this treadmill! The only thing I wouldn't recommend is getting the upper body arm workout treadmill if you are not going to use the arms. I found that I disliked the motion and never used them. So I will be getting another proform treadmill, just not with the upper body resistance. My proform treadmill has been absolutely exceptional! Remember, 15 years is a loooong time! :)

Just bought the machine from a sporting goods dealer two days ago, got it home plugged it in and it is a piece of, well you know. The incline and heart rate doesn't work. I know that I got one but this machine cannot read my heart rate ,or it isn't telling. One time I was walking at a slow speed and hit the stop button and it accelerated scareing the ----out of me and almost throwing me off the back.
All and all it's been a great machine I bought it for less because it had a scratch on the panel right in front. I thought that I could live with that but all of these other quirks, and now the knowledge that this machine is I don't know how old, and I can't find info on a model this old. You get what you pay for. The dealer said to bring it back in and I feel one of those things coming on

I bought this treadmill 4 years ago, and it just recently started giving me trouble. I tried to call customer service, but after being on hold for 10 minutes they hung up on me. Then I emailed, and it has been over a week and I have gotten no reply. I also called again and left a message this time, but no one has returned my call. Lesson learned: you get what you pay for, and this treadmill won't last. There is NO customer service either. Big mistake.

We bought a ProForm with a blue-screen digital display, and after two days, the display went blank. It's a 2009 model, and we've been informed that they don't have the replacement parts in stock, so we'll have to load up this 200-pound chunk of equipment and take it back to the store for a refund. Won't be buying ProForm again.

The information and models referenced on this web site are not up-to-date. ProForm now offers a full "lifetime" warranty on the motor and frame and "2 years" parts and labor on all else for models selling "under $1,000".

Fortunatley, the machine broke down within the 90-day warranty. A faulty bolt caused the tension belt arm to bend and rub against the motor. Customer service has been very nice, but it's difficult to get the parts and then schedule a time with a technician to come out and fix it. I'm now in the process of trying to return the machine, and I'll never purchase another ProForm machine.

I have had the proform treadmill crosswalk xl for over 13 years. I bought it new at sears and paid roughly $400 for it. I use it everyday with no problems at all. never!!!! I walk/run anywhere from 60-90 minutes on it daily from 3.5 miles an hour, up to 7 miles or more and hour. I seriously love this machine.

I got a treadmill delivered to my house with the wrong parts in it. I called proform and told them about it. I have the 4 year extended warranty. Six weeks later I still haven't gotten the right parts and phone calls and emails don't seem to work either. I am on a list so this must happen a lot.
