HI All,
I Just stumbled onto your page but will be checking in often. I am an ex-Johnson Health Tech Electronics Engineering Tech., for years, and now repair all styles of motor control boards and other electronics for the fitness industry, no matter the brand.
As for Horizon, I am sorry to hear all the troubles out there, but they could careless about customers after the sale. The entire industry is lagging in the service side of things.
Please direct motor control problems to me before you break down for Horizon replacements as they are expensive, and most units can be repaired for less than half the cost of a replacement.
For customers using the Horizon Part Number 013674DG, there is a long history of troubles with this controller, for a few reasons, which I won't discuss here, but fact is, it is a known issue that Horizon failed to attend to.
Also, part numbers 032671HF and 032669IF are exact pcb's and sowftware and are directly interchangeable. If you doubt me I can explain further, but trust me on this.
I am still known to many at Johnson and supply their services with a specially designed Treadmill Analyzer, for diagnosing all Johnson Brand treadmills up to the 2012 yr when a few went to a digital format.
This includes problems with Matrix Fitness, Vision Fitness, Horizon Fitness, Merit, AFG and other brands, and this help/advice is free, as it should be. peace

I've had this treadmill about 4 years. Bought new. It's been very nice to walk on, although I mostly use it in the winter. I have no complaints in this time period. Machine is quiet enough to watch TV while using. Plenty of levels for speed and incline to suit whatever fitness level you want to reach. Several built-in programs, although I prefer to manage speed and incline myself depending on what I want to do on a given day. Still, the programs are nice if you want to put someone else in charge of speed. ;-)

I bought this treadmill about 5 years ago based on a recommendation from someone I know and trust who has been in the fitness equipment industry for several years. He recommended this model because in his experience with it he had less customer complaints and service calls than other models in his store.
I mostly run outside in the summer, and haven't been as consistent in working out as I intended when I bought it, but I have used this treadmill quite often walking, jogging, and running. I don't use the preset programs, but have used the incline and ran at speeds up to 7.0 (though not very often at that speed). I have not had any problems at all with this treadmill. I love it!
The only complaint, which was mentioned previously by another reviewer, is the heart rate monitors on the hand grips are slow to work and sometimes seem inaccurate. To me, that's not a deal breaker. This treadmill has been reliable and easy to use. I love the design, with the two cup holders on the sides, and the display makes it very easy to manually change the speed and incline during runs.
I just found this site today and was shocked to find the bad reviews of the Horizon line. Makes me think I must have received a rare gem of a treadmill, or the other happy users just aren't commenting. Maybe a little of both.

I bought treadmill online from horizon website. Assembled it and plugged it. Does not turn on at all. The new equipment out of the box, does not turn on. very disappointing. Also, they are closed on weekends, so hard to reach technical support people.
The way they catch their potential buyer:
1. Offer competitive price online
2. Offer free mat to put treadmill (worth $42.00)
3. Offer $50.00 Visa gift card.
In total, it is not worth to spend money on Horizon treadmills.

I bought a treadmill a week ago. On the first hour of use I noticed that the running belt keep coming of center and the equipment makes to much noise. I tried to contact TEMPO the manufacturer. Initially there was a recording saying” we are experiencing high volume calls please call us again in the next business day”. I tried again and again when I finally was waiting for the a representative. After waiting for 45 minutes my call was disconnected.
In the next day after the purchase I went back to the Canadian Tire that I bought the equipment from. For my surprise the manager said that they wouldn’t do a refund!!!
They said that a RA (return authorization) was needed from the manufacturer and that would take few
days. Now after many calls they are saying that I should deal this the manufacturer. No return for this item!!!

I bought this treadmill for our home thinking that it would be a good machine that would last a while. It is very loud. It seems very wabbly even with lightweight users. Many of the screws have fallen out of the handles and brackets and some of them even came stripped or missing. Eventually the fan broke off inside the control panel and the electronics started to fail (specifically the "Select" button). I called the company for tech support and repair. They said that the nearest service technician was 57 miles away. I would have to pay for their mileage (over $150)and a $124 minimum service call fee before they even looked at the problem. I decided to scrap it and buy a new one. I don't recommend this machine to anyone. I bought it at Dick's Sporting Goods, but now see that they don't carry this line anymore. They have shifted to Sole treadmills which seem to be a little beefier.

Bought the T54HR on 7/05, have replaced the board 3 times, twice on Horizon and once on me. Guess what? I need another one. Average on a year, not good. Horizon always put the cause on the circuit, the room temp. etc.. Every thing but their own junk boards.

Stay the F away from these machines. I as well as many other posters just have a heavy piece of metal sitting in their room now due to burnt out circuit boards. When it was within warranty, tech support sucked. All they did was throw part after part in the mail until the machine worked. I spent more time on the phone with these people than using the machine. Found out it was a burnt circuit control board and then they tried to blame me stating that the machine requires a special dedicated line for the machine only. How many people have special dedicated lines for running machines - Are you kidding me?
Out of warranty now and call tech support. They tell me that I now need to do a voltmeter dignostic and send the results in since everything but the main running motor and frame is not covered. Turns out. it's the board AGAIN and they want $300.00 + for a replacement. I'm stuck with this POS and hope no one else gets stuck like I did.

Mine burst into flames just after the warranty ran out on the electrical- 2yrs -I have arthritis and use it many times a day. The dealer didnt get anyone to look at it for 2 weeks then tells me $500+ to fix it .....then they again don't show up ....a month and a week later the jerk handy boy he employs tells me they still haven't order the parts. I had to get another machine days after it shorted out . I now have a huge unusable $2400 treadmill in my apt. I'm so fed up with this looser I don't want to talk to him . Don't buy one -or anything from the treadmill factory.

Within 3 mos. of me buying this the motor went bad. They replaced it and installed it, but the motor still sounded funny. It worked though, so I went on about my business. 1 year later, the board went bad. I'm out of the warranty period, so I guess I have to buy a new treadill. It will not be a Horizon.

I bought Horizon CT 5.0 at a Canadian Tire in Toronto, Ontario. It was lightly used and I performed the lube on it as indicated. It started making loud noise. Recorded it and sent it to company. Long series of emails had me dismantle parts of it. Now they say it needs a new running belt. $100 USD. But what if that doesn't fix it. Down the garden path. For $700 or so it should last more than 2 years. I'll never buy their brand again and neither should you.

Purchased in 2005 from Dicks for approx. $1000. 15 years warranty on motor. A month ago it just stopped working. Although we had good intentions of using the machine regularly we did not so it doesn't have a lot of hours on it. Called Horizon. After waiting for 15 minutes I finally spoke to someone who quickly determined we were no longer covered under the 1 year labor warranty and told us to call another number. Through their diagnostic center they determined it wasn't the motor, but the circuit board. Cost to replace $220 for the part and $155 for the maint. call! Not investing anymore money in this product or company. Buyer beware!!

After 9 years of heavy use, the deck frame broke on our Elite 4.0T. Up until that time it had been flawless, the only maintenance done was lubrication and cleaning. It was a bit squeaky I guess at that point too, probably needed a new drive belt.
Since the frame had a lifetime warranty I called up customer service and sent pictures of the damage. Knowing how most warranty claims go, I was expecting them to send out a new frame which would require a full weekend or more to disassemble and replace. I was planning on giving it away or selling for cheap and buying something else. Instead they declared it "unrepairable" and shipped me a new AFG 3.1AT treadmill with a new warranty at no cost to me! It arrived within a week. AFG and Horizon are both Johnson Fitness brands. My new AFG is very similar mechanically to the 4.0T but I did notice they have redesigned and reinforced the elevation motor attachment point which is what broke.
All in all, the 4.0T was a capable treadmill for me even as I advanced my running past what I would expect a treadmill in that price range to handle. It wasn't fancy but it was solid and got the job done. Stuff happens sometimes and while the frame design was questionable they still stood behind it and have hopefully fixed the issue in new models. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Johnson product.

We have a Horizon machine but after a year, one of its sensors went bad. It is the one which detects the load on the belt. When you're on the belt it does not show an error but as soon as you get off an error appears.

I purchased a Horizon 7.1 treadmill and from the day it was set up it started breaking down. small pieces of black plastic (presumably a roller or guide under the belt?) started coming out from under the belt at the back. This was under light use and began the first day so I can only presume the unit was broken/defective from the start. The instructions tell you to call Horizon directly and not go back to the store where it was purchased. Calling Horizon's 1-800 number gets you a recording that they cannot take your call but will call you back. Still waiting... How is that acceptable for a brand new purchase? I have read many other reviews stating the same. It's just not worth the chance so find something with much more reliable reviews. If I had read more I probably would not have purchased this brand in the first place. Buyers beware.

I have a horizon fitness treadmill with less than 50 hours on it. The original circuit board went so it was kept as a clothes rack. Decided to finally fix it for 250 dollars with a new circuit board. Customer service said there was a 90 day warranty. I called customer service and they told me NO WARRANTY on burnt out circuit boards. I told them it's got less than 30 minutes use on it. They immediately told me it's my fault for the burnt out circuit board. I told them there's nothing wrong with this treadmill and they tell me it's the belt. The belt is new and hasn't got 50 hours of use on it and 2 circuit boards have blown up.
DO NOT BUY HORIZON TREADMILLS. They look good but the brains of the treadmill which is the circuit board is useless. It can't even last 30 minutes of easy use.
Spend your hard earned money on a machine that will work and not be a very expensive clothes rack.

This machine is pure junk. I run 10 Kms a day but only weigh 145lbs. After three months the running deck broke; about a month later the mother board went; three weeks or so after that the replacement mother board went; about two months later the drive belt had to be replaced; now, at just over 13 months old, the motor is completely shot.
Unless you are only going to use your treadmill as a laundry hangar I would strongly advise everyone to stay away from these awful pieces of trash. I had to spend about $100 a pop for three service calls inside of seven months, not to mention all of the frustration and down time involved.

I bought the horizon fitness tsc5 treadmill 10 years ago. However, neither the store or the instruction manual said anything about needing a dedicated 20 amp circuit to plug it in to. I noticed when I was running on it, the speed would fluctuate ever so slightly from time to time causing me to have to hold on to the grips. After a short time, it stopped working altogether. After researching the issue, I figured out I burned up the motor and the power supply board and it was because it was plugged in to a standard household 15 amp circuit. Once I replaced the motor and circuit board myself (not that hard to do) I had an electrician come in and install a new dedicated 20 amp circuit and behold, no more problems. The treadmill works great! I repaired about 6 years ago and it's been fine. I think the circuit issue is related to the problems many people have written in about.

I bought this treadmill roughly about 4 years ago. I used it quite alot to start with but now that I am trying to use it again, I am having problems with the belt. It is not moving even though the electronic console shows that my workout has already started. Can someone tell me what is wrong this was the high end machine. I believe I payed around $2,000.00 for this. It has a power-V Digital drive system, 2.75 HP Continous duty motor, 26lb MagForce Motor at 3100RPM, and it says it has a 20year Motor Warranty.

I've had my treadmill for 8 years and the motherboard finally began to smoke. I can't even begin to guess how many miles it has on it. This year alone so far, I would estimate close to 600.

I would not recommend this treadmill. We have had problems after problems. Within the first 6 months of owning our treadmill we replaced 3 parts. Good thing it was under warranty. After that we had to replace the lower control board 3 times and we have owned this for 7 years. We just replaced the lower control board in May and it just went out again in December. Now making it the 4th time. It costs us 250 each time to have this done including parts and labor. I am extremely disappointed in this machine.

In January 2006 I purchased a CST4.5 treadmill from Dick's for $999.99 + $199.99 4 year "no sweat" extended warrenty. In September of 2008 the treadmill stopped working. To make a long story short:
* Called the Warrenty company no sweat who is owned by the Pheonix Group based out of AZ the fisrt person suggested that someone would call us in 3 days to schedule an appointment. After a total of 20 phone calls to the "no sweat pheonix group", Horizon fitness and Dick's 4 weeks later a repairman came and concluded that the control board and the motor were defective.
* An additional 20 to 25 phone calls and 4 weeks later the part arrived (3 days later the repair man came) which turned out to be the incorrect control board and no motor.
* We are currently waiting for new parts if the new parts arrive and they are correctly installed we have waited 12 weeks and who knows how long the treadmill will work until it breaks down again?
I would strongly recommend not purchasing anything from Dick's Horizon or the pheonix group.

We have had this model for years, and it has worked great and been very reliable.
Easy to use.
At one point after several years, the belt started slipping a bit.
We watched a YouTube video on how to adjust it, and it took about one minute to adjust and it was back running great.

In 18 months I have had three Ti32 running decks and 1 Ti52 (which I was upgraded to) running deck colapse on me. I also had an electrical problem with the Ti52.
In the 18 months I have been unable to use it for 104 days due to the lengthy time it takes to fix problems.
I won't be buying another one of these once the warranty expires.

Circuit board disaster!! This machine eats circuit boards. I bought this machine 7 years ago. I put about 30 miles on it and the circuit board went on it. Went to Dunhams and got another one. It lasted for about 60 miles and it went. The machine has been used as a cloth rack for about 4 years. It works great for that. I just called to see how much a new board is and found it to be close to $200 with shipping. Probably won't buy it. Will just get rid of it and chalk it up to experience.

My T-62 is 4 years old, has about 300 hours on it. I like everything about it EXCEPT!!! The self program mode has never worked from day one. With only 300 hours on it the motor control board is over heating and will soon burn up. Horizon took two days getting back to me and could not provide the part I need but did refer me to another company. For nearly $2000.00 I expect any product to last much longer than this.

So far the worst feature I feel with the treadmill I purchased are the heart rate grips. It takes anywhere from 30 seconds plus to get a near accurate heart rate if you get one at all.
Positioning of the track to keep it center and from rubbing against the outer plastic frame is the next issue. Glad my husband knows how to play with it.
I have only been using it steady for about 1.5 months since I purchased it 21 months ago and find that it is beginning to make quite a few creaking noises during a 30 minute fast walk/light jog.
I do like that it has several options for programs and a memory so you don't need to constantly reset it.
The LCD ligt window becomes 3D at night and I therefore am not able to complete a workout as it throws off my balance.
Drink holders aren't deep enough or are too big to keep a bottle from bouncing around too much.
I personally feel that I paid way too much money for this particular treadmill and should have not been so impatient to purchase one when I was out shopping. Learn to read reviews and do some homework.

We are having belt problems, we presume, as the treadmill is running fine, but after I used it the other night, my husband got on it about 30 min later and it was making a different sound, not the usual rhythm we are used to hearing when we turn it on and walk. My husband has tried to check the belt, make any adjustments, but can't seem to find anything to fix. Any suggestions?
We just got this in late November 2011, and have used it regularly since then.
Thanks!

This treadmill has worked great for 9 years but I know it's not for anyone over 275#. Much to my dismay the motor burned up after 3 days with someone walking on it over 1 mile each time who weighs over 300#. The company warned and we did not listen. I will try to find another one as this one gave me good service for 9 years no problems.

We bought a TSC5 about 7 years ago for $1500. Used once in a while by two old people, no running and not over 3.3mph.
At first it was great then in year five the motor control board burned. Last month, year seven, the motor control board burned out....@ $190 each. I lubricate it monthly.
For the last two boards it has been used in a new house with new wiring yet the ceiling light goes up and down as you take a step. With the latest new board the lights now go up and down with no one on the machine!
Amp draw is ~1.9amp and 4.5amp with someone on it.
This is a well built treadmill but there is a problem with the motor control board. I would advise staying away from this brand.

Purchased from Summit Fitness, Narellan
1. Was faulty from the first day of use. Heart-rate sensors deliver small electrical shocks and this seems to short out the display.
2. The suspension is very noisy even when just walking. Summit Fitness have been a nightmare to deal with. They refused to refund, and offered to replace the unit with an inferior model. Johnson/Horizon have offered a refund but Summit Fitness refuse to pass it on. Johnson/ Horizon have now offered me an equitable replacement. Their service team here in Australia have been great to deal with.

Overall, its not a bad treadmill; however, having said that it is not perfect either. It gets pretty temperamental when you run at an incline, it will trip the breaker almost every time, and the belt does like to walk, but other than that it's not bad. It was easy to set up, it does run smoothly, and is pretty nice to run or walk on, it looks pretty good, but it does have its faults. overall, not a bad treadmill for the money, but if you are really serious about training on a treadmill and you can afford it, buy something else

Not a bad treadmill. I have had it for about 5+ yrs now & it has worked well. I trained for two half marathons using it & everything went well. It is by far better than the Walmart type traedmills & well worth the extra few bucks (if you use it that is). The only complaint is that it squeaks when it is elevated (2%+)and I am mid-close to the display. I think this is something that is fairly easy to fix, but I'm too lazy to look, but I figure I would mention it.
Overall a good machine & I'm happy my wife talked me into spending a few extra bucks. I'd say an 8 out of 10
Cheers

After a bolt broke on one of the handrails, I contacted Horizon online. They responded: Thank you for contacting Johnson Health Tech. For security reason please contact Customer Tech Support at 1-888-993-3199 Mon-Fri 8-5pm CST to place an order for the bolt. The cost with shipping will be $6.80 plus tax. I called and after listening to the "on-wait" music from hell for 16 minutes, they responded, "We are experiencing a high volume of calls. Please call back the next business day".

I did not know that the treadmill needed to be lube. Not only that once I lube the machine it still give indication to be lube I wasted $16.00 for the kit with no results. I also ask for help to Horizon no answer yet. I suggest don't buy this product unless you know the full detail about the system ( help desk questions) and how it works.

I own a Horizon CT83 with 180 hrs on it. The motor went when the motor control burnt up. The company advised me that the belt and the deck would have to be replaced because of the load it was putting on the motor. This is a costly process so I have decided to scrap this $1000 piece of junk.

I bought a Horizon C5 treadmill three months ago. The retailer Canadian Tires had no idea about the treadmill and did not have any ideas or help to offer on the assembly and informed me it could be done by one person. Ultimately four of us had to try because it was simply too heavy. The packed treadmill came with the wrong instructions. The treadmill, we are told, got locked even before we went about assembling it completely. The retailer of course refused to help. It took a week to get the first response from the company. I was then sent the "correct" instructions on how to assemble the product. Unfortunately these did not work either. I asked for professional help. Again I was sent information about another retailer whose email ID and phone number were either both wrong or the shop itself had closed down. Two months passed. I moved from my original residence to a new city. By now I had probably spent $100 in addition to the expense of the treadmill itself on moving etc. I contacted Horizon again. This time I was told to get in touch with another retailer. Should I be paying more to have this problem fixed? If a product requires assemply shouldnt the retailer and company have some accountability to the consumer to give the right instructions and tips while buying the product? Dont ever buy this product.

My wife and I bought this heavy-duty treadmill second-hand. We then came to find out that it was a refurbished unit! We got a good deal on it, however, so we hoped for the best.
I must say that we've been very pleased with it. We've used it several times a week (at least during the winter months) for the past 4 years. We don't use the programs, but have used the incline up to 8% grade and the speed up to 8.5 MPH. So far, so good.
Here are the only issues we've faced:
1) The switch went bad. I think I managed to get a new one for $15 or so and installed it myself. Very easy.
2) During two of our summers, the machine would often veer from the instructions we gave it. We'd program in 6.3mph at 1% incline and it would just start changing this at random early on in the run. Very dangerous, actually! We literally were not able to use the treadmill during those periods. By fall, I'd give the motor compartment a good cleaning, jiggle all of the electrical connections to ensure a snug fit, and everything would be back to normal. We haven't seen this wacky behavior for a year and a half now. I still don't know if it was merely a loose connection, the summer humidity, or merely gremlins in the wiring!
Overall, however, this has been a great treadmill that has stood up to well over 7000 miles of use.

Love it! The treadmill is like new again after 7 years of heavy duty use.
I bought mine in 2005 from Dicks Sporting Goods, this was the top model that year. The machine gets heavily used by two runners, especially in winter. In the years I have owned mine I have replaced my control board, and the top circuitry, also recently replaced the track last month. Also I just replaced the motor as it started to bog down a little when walking on it. I called the company and told them this, support was excellent during the troubleshooting, they ended up sending me a brand new motor (under warranty), my old one was 2.5HP, the new one is 2.75HP! Came in 2 days, was easy to put in, no charge at all. Again, the treadmill is like new again after 7 years of heavy duty use...my advice would be to buy a higher model given all the problems posted here. However, all treadmills require maintenance, keep the belt lubed, adjust it every 150hrs, replace parts as required, and you should have no worries.

They stink, mine breaks every six months and requires a new circuit board to fix it. Horizon has been good about sending new ones during the warranty period but expects me to install it. On-site service was part of why I bought it but they never have a tech in your area. They will send someone but it will take 2-4 weeks before you see him. My treadmill is now out of warrany and is once again broken. Perhaps thay could offer on-site removal and destruction of your old treadmill?
Don't buy these cheap chinese made treadmills at any cost!

Four motor control boards have burned up in 5 years. Also had to replace the belt and motor. The company does not service their own equipment, it is outsourced, so there is no incentive to make the product right other than $$$. For the replacement costs and time of use lost I should have bought another brand.

I wish I would of checked out this site about Horizon Treadmills - They suck. Bought the T-50, have a technician working on it now - no idea what the problem will be or how much it will cost. Very frustrating! Don't buy a Horizon Treadmill, it's just NOT worth it.
